Translocal Practices
Eine Vielzahl aktueller gesellschaftlicher, kultureller und politischer Prozesse findet in translokalen Räumen statt. Ein translokaler Raum entsteht durch die selektive Verknüpfung voneinander getrennter lokaler Räume und verteilter Akteure zu einem neuen Handlungsraum. Dieser basiert auf digitale und analoge Kommunikations- und Transportinfrastrukturen, die die Zirkulation von Menschen, Dingen und Informationen ermöglichen. In ihrer Auseinandersetzung mit translokalem Praktiken und Räumen werfen KünstlerInnen spezifische politische, konzeptuelle und ästhetische Fragen auf. Das Forschungsprojekt „Translocal Practices" setzt sich in Workshops, Projekten und Publikationen mit diesen Fragen auseinander.

Arbeitsschwerpunkte in Forschung und Lehre
Felix Stalder beschäftigt sich mit politischen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Dimensionen der Informations- und Wissengesellschaft. Arbeitsschwerpunkte bilden die Veränderung der Wissenordnung (Stichwort : Open Source, Wissensallmende, Autorschaft), die strukturell-räumlichen Veränderungen sozialer Prozesse (Stichwort: Translokalität und Space of Flows) und Theorien der Netzwerke.
Biografie
Dr. Felix Stalder ist Dozent am Studienbereich Neue Medien, Hochschule für Kunst und Gestaltung Zürich, Schwerpunkt Medienökonomie. Zuvor absolvierte er einen Post-Doc an der Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, wo er sich mit Fragen der Überwachung beschäftigte. Von 1996-2001 forschte an der University of Toronto im Rahmen einer sozialwissenschaftlichen Dissertation zur Digitalisierung eines Massenmediums, Bargeld.
Nebst seiner akademischen Tätigkeit ist Felix Stalder Mitbegründer von Openflows, einem international Open Source Forschungs- und Entwicklungsnetzwerk und langjähriger Moderator der internationalen Mailingliste , die sich seit 1995 mit kritisch mit Phenomenen und Projekten an der Schnittstelle von Technologie, Politik und Kunst auseinandersetzt. Darüberhinaus hat er wesentlich zur Konzeption und Organisation internationaler Fachkonferenzen beigetragen, World-Information City (Bangalore 2005), Freebitflows (Wien 2004) und Open Cultures (Wien 2003). Er ist Mitbegründer der Initative Kunstfreiheit.ch.
